If you would have told me 10 years ago that I would be buying, wearing, loving and obsessing over one piece swimsuits, I would have laughed in your face. I am no stranger to the one piece, in fact other than the occasional tankini, it’s all I wore growing up.
See… I wasn’t joking. Bowl cut, bangs, ruffles and all.
Around the age of 13 (you know… that awkward, confusing age where you start feeling less like a child and more like a grown up) which might I add is the most hilarious, delusional thought you could ever have (heck, I’m 26 and I still haven’t quite got this “adulting” thing down yet). Well, that’s the age I remember trading my one pieces in for two.
A “two piece” or bikini was not just a bathing suit that showed your stomach but a sign of woman hood and a way to embrace your changing body – the holy grail for being “cool” or so I thought. I mean after all, you didn’t see Britney or Christina parading around in their one pieces.
Although (thanks to VS) my bikini collection still FAR outweighs my one pieces (all 3 of them), I find one piece swimsuits more often than not to be cuter, sexier, more comfortable and more figure flattering. I mean who really wants to put on a bathing suit, better yet a two piece after pizza and beer. NOT ME.
Here’s the one piece hubby bought me for my birthday a few weeks ago!
Good job babe!
If you’re totally new to the one piece game, I would suggest starting at local surf shops. Yes, there will undoubtedly be WAY more two pieces than one pieces to choose from, but I have found local surf shops carry a lot more unique bathing suits that not everyone will have vs. places like Target or Victoria’s Secret. Another good place to look, would be Instagram and Facebook. There are so many swimsuit retailers and small pop up companies that you probably have never even heard of that do most, if not ALL of their advertising/sales through social media. Buying online can always be tricky (especially for something like a swimsuit) so be sure to read customer reviews, pay close attention to the size charts and review the return policy before ordering. These extra steps will save you a possible headache later.
So for all you ladies out there scared or apprehensive about taking the “one piece plunge”, DO IT! You won’t regret it. If anything you’ll have a new obsession, like me – which is horrible in my case seeing as Hawaii is a mecca for all things swim. I’m no psychic, but I foresee a lot more one pieces in my future!
Whether you’re into one pieces or two, it all comes down to what you are comfortable in. Never let anyone tell you, you can’t wear something because of your body type. We all come in different shapes and sizes, all which are beautiful! I hope this helps all you gals!
